Bahrain is implementing various projects to support the victims of the earthquakes that struck Türkiye and Syria, thanks to the generous gesture of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Bahrain’s humanitarian commitment was highlighted by the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF), Secretary-General and the head of the National Committee for Supporting Earthquake Victims in Syria and Türkiye Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed during a press conference held at the RHF offices on Tuesday.

“The latest announcement on relief efforts in Syria comes as part of the Royal gesture of HM the King and relief efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain, spearheaded by HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa,” Dr Al Sayed said.

The conference was also addressed by the members of the National Committee for Supporting Earthquake Victims in Syria and Türkiye including Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health Dr Waleed Al Manea, President of Bahrain Medical Society Dr Amer Al Derazi, and head of Bahrain Red Crescent Society Mohammed Ebrahim.

“During our stay in Syria, we met government officials, members of the public and organisations working on the ground in earthquake-affected areas. The members of the public greeted the delegation on the streets as they had seen Bahrain’s aid arriving in Syria on their national TV broadcasts,” Al Sayed said.

The talks focused on the first relief aid shipment delivered by Bahrain to Syria, in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, within the framework of the humanitarian response to face the repercussions and damages caused by the earthquake that struck Syria recently.

Dr. Al Sayed said Bahrain would remain a front state in helping Syrian and Turkish brothers and sisters in line with the directives of HM King and the support of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the RHF, under the leadership of HH Shaikh Nasser.

“His Majesty King’s telephone call to the Syrian President to convey condolences following the earthquake has boosted the morale of the people and RHF will continue to work closely with Syrian authorities in reconstruction and rehabilitation of Syria.”

Talking about the objectives of the visit, he said it was very helpful to collect first-hand information about the damage caused by the quake and determine urgent needs as well as to discuss the possibility of providing a helping hand in various walks of life, especially in the relief and humanitarian sectors.

“The national health services in Syria are in shambles, and any assistance would make a big difference to the Syrian people at this stage,” Dr Al Sayed said.
