The Barbados Pavilion at the 28th United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP28) embodies a qualitative shift in efforts to address climate change under the theme ‘Barbados is Life’ through programmes and initiatives aimed at finding future solutions.

The pavilion discusses several challenges, including water security and the factors affecting this sector, as well as finding sustainable solutions in cooperation with the private sector, forming partnerships, and coordinating to operationalise these efforts.

The Pavilion also showcases the ‘Bridgetown Initiative’, which seeks to accelerate progress towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the objectives of the Paris Agreement. It provides immediate liquidity support, restores debt sustainability, mobilises private sector investments, increases total lending for sector development for SDGs, ensures that the multilateral trading system supports the green and equitable transition, and reforms the governance and operations
of multilateral development banks and international financial institutions.

The Barbados Pavilion is showcasing the Roofs to Reefs Programme (R2RP), which is a comprehensive and integrated national initiative for resilient development in Barbados that provides a response at the individual, community, and country level. It is an integrated investment programme based on the principles of sustainable development and climate change resilience, and represents the development model for Barbados for the next decade. Primarily, the R2RP is a development programme that focuses on infrastructure and nature in addition to ecosystems, which will play a supporting role in continuing the development of policy framework needed to achieve the climate goals.
