Amman: Northern Military Zone troops Monday thwarted a dawn attempt to infiltrate the border and smuggle in drugs from Syria, said an official military source at the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army (JAF).
Border Guard forces, in coordination with the Directorate of Military Security and the Anti-Narcotics Department, tracked a group of smugglers trying to trespass the frontier from Syria, and launched rapid response patrols that applied the rules of engagement, injuring them and arresting one member of the group, while the rest fled deep into Syrian territory, it said in a statement.
After a search of the area, 126 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 20,000 Captagon pills were found and sent to the competent authorities, it said.
The source vowed that JAF will continue deal with full force and firmness with any threat at the border or any attempt to undermine the Kingdom’s security or intimidate its people.
