BRICS Summit in Kazan Highlighted as Decade’s Major Event by Russian Foreign Ministry

Kazan: The BRICS summit in Kazan has been identified as one of the most significant international gatherings of the decade, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova. The summit, which has drawn representatives from 36 countries and six international organizations, including United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, is being closely covered by over 2,000 journalists from 59 countries. According to Emirates News Agency, Zakharova highlighted the pivotal role played by the TV BRICS International Media Network in fostering a shared information space among BRICS countries. The network provides continuous broadcasts in multiple languages, including Russian, English, Chinese, Portuguese, and Spanish, ensuring extensive coverage of international events. Zakharova noted that TV BRICS also actively supports films from BRICS+ directors, collaborates with film festivals, engages with educational institutions, and serves as a platform for experts and bloggers. The initiative to create such an information platform was initially proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the IX BRICS summit in China in 2017. Zakharova described this as a practical realization of Putin's vision, aimed at enhancing cooperation among media outlets within the BRICS community and promoting the group's activities. The proposal received backing from other BRICS nations, leading to the network's expansion. Currently, more than 70 media organizations from countries such as Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, and others have joined TV BRICS, with growing global interest in the initiative. The BRICS summit in Kazan, themed 'Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,' will continue until October 24.
