Cabinet’s media center denies news on wasting billions of pounds on canal lining project

The Cabinet’s media center on Thursday 2/9/2021 denied news reports about wasting billions of pounds in the national project for rehabilitating and lining canals without having a unified plan to carry it out.

The center said in a statement on Thursday that it contacted the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, which refuted the reports as “baseless.”

The ministry said that the project is an important national venture, adopted by the State to serve the water system and solve problems facing farmers.

It added the project is being implemented as per an integrated and unified strategic plan nationwide in cooperation with all the bodies concerned.

Such reports are meant to disrupt public order and trigger off outrage, it said.

It urged all citizens not to be deceived by such reports and to immediately contact the ministry if they have any query.
