Customs authorities at Cairo International Airport have managed to foil an attempt to smuggle a large amount of Egyptian currency, steel weapons, narcotics and walkie-talkies.

A statement issued by the airport authorities Monday said an Egyptian passenger was held after attempting to smuggle EGP 121,000 in violation of the law that permits every passenger to carry only EGP 5,000.

It added two passengers coming from Athens were held as they were trying smuggle bottles of liquid tramadol drug and steel weapons.

According to the statement, a passenger coming from New York was detained while trying to smuggle 15 communication sets and four walkie talkies.

The passengers were referred to the prosecution after taking all legal procedures.
