RAMALLAH: Prime Minister of the Caretaker Government, Mohammed Shtayyeh, today called on France to recognize the State of Palestine bilaterally and support its full membership in the United Nations, out of its belief in the values of justice and peace.
Shtayyeh made the remarks during a meeting held in Ramallah with a delegation from the French Communist Party, headed by the party’s Secretary-General Fabien Roussel, the head of the opposition coalition in the French Parliament.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister informed Roussel of the repercussions of the occupation’s aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
Shtayyeh stressed that the priority is to stop the aggression and genocidal war waged against the Palestinian people, open more crossings with the Gaza Strip to bring in aid according to priorities and emergency humanitarian needs and restore electricity and water there.
Shtayyeh said that in addition to the war of genocide being committe
d against the people of the Strip, the West Bank also faces the terrorism of colonists, attacks by the occupation army and the continuation of daily killings, detentions, land seizure, and demolitions.
Meanwhile, the French delegation expressed concern over what is happening in Palestine, including the war against humanity, especially in the Gaza Strip.
It expressed its solidarity with the Palestinian people who have been suffering for 75 years, affirming that it would update the French leadership on the situation on the ground.
