Celebrations in Damascus and Aleppo on UNESCO’s inscription of Qudud Halabiya on World Heritage list

People who are fond of the Syrian traditional songs and music gathered on Thursday at the Ummayad main square in Damascus and in front of Aleppo citadel to celebrate UNESCO’s inscription of Qudud Halabiya on World Heritage List.

The Qudūd Ḥalabīya literally “musical measures of Aleppo” are traditional Syrian songs combining lyrics in Classical Arabic based on the poetry of Al-Andalus.

UNESCO on Wednesday inscribed Qudud Halabiya on the Human Heritage List during the 16th meeting of the international committee on the protection of cultural intangible heritage in France.
