Completion of a pedestrian bridge in Gaza’s al Qarara funded by Japan celebrated


Yoichi Nakashima, The Japanese Ambassador for Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine, visited al-Qarara in the Gaza Strip to celebrate the completion of the project funded by the Government of Japan through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). A grant of $121,992 was extended to Bayader for Environment and Development Association to construct a pedestrian bridge to ensure the school’s students and the residents’ safety surrounding Salah Aldin Street at al Qarara. Upon the completion of the project, more than 7,000 students daily in addition to 300 patients will benefit directly from the bridge project and thousands of other users including the disabled. In his speech, Yoichi Nakashima emphasized Japan’s firm commitment to supporting Palestinian people from a human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities. Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended it
s official development assistance to approximately $2.3 billion to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian government, civil institutions, municipalities, and the private sector since 2010.
