Conference on peace, humanity kicks off in Amman

The International Peace and Humanity Conference, which is organized by the Shobak Women’s Charity Association, kicked off on Tuesday in the capital, Amman, bringing together heads of delegations from several Arab countries.

The three-day conference will tackle several issues, top of which is women and their leading role in spreading the culture of peace, under four areas: empowering women and the family; women and their role alongside men to redress the family structure; building a model and civilized society; and contemporary Arab female role models.

The conference aims to consolidate the culture of peace and peaceful coexistence at the national and global levels, work in all areas of peace and humanitarian aspects, support the democratic process, increase peace and humanitarian initiatives, ensure sustainable development, cooperate with national and international humanitarian organizations, and working side-by-side to provide consultations on rights, legal, medical and humanitarian issues.

Patronizing the conference on behalf of the President of the Senate Faisal Fayez, Senator Fadel Hamoud stressed the importance of rejecting incitement to hatred and establishing a culture of love, compassion and peace stemming from the teachings of Islam to address the obstacles hindering peace in the modern world.

In his speech, Hamoud stressed the importance of cementing Arab-international relations, forging cooperation and severing the ties of fanaticism and violence to establish a fertile environment for future generations and to keep striving for a more beautiful and sustainable future.

Chairperson of the conference Basma Hababah said the conference is being held to underscore the need for contemporary societies to coexist peacefully, noting that this is the key to security and building up a human being politically, culturally, economically and socially.

A number of heads of the participating delegations gave speeches in which they indicated that Jordan plays an important role in peace in the region, stressing that His Majesty King Abdullah II maintains a firm position in international forums that stresses peace as the only solution to resolving international conflicts.
