Construction begins in first liquefied natural gas station in Aqaba-EMRC

Amman: Construction works have begun in the first station to receive liquefied natural gas in Aqaba Industrial Estate, delivered from Risha gas field of the Jordanian National Petroleum Company.

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), Ziad Saaideh, stressed importance of establishing the station designed to receive natural and liquefied gas in Aqaba Industrial Estate.

According to a EMRC statement Saturday, Saaideh said the facility is an “important” achievement for developing infrastructure in the Kingdom’s oil and gas sector and represents a “strategic” investment to support security of energy supply, increase reliance on local energy sources, and raise its contribution to the overall energy mix.

During his visit to the station’s site, Saaideh added that the project is “pioneering and the first of its kind” in the Kingdom, and provides an “effective” solution to enable Jordan’s industrial sector to reduce production costs.

Saaideh noted this goal comes
by using locally produced natural gas at a “low” price, and enhance competitiveness of national industries, which is reflected in attracting investment, increasing job opportunities, and employing workforce in the Kingdom’s industrial and development projects.

In this context, Director General of Jordan Liquefied Gas Company, Khalil Abu Al-Rub, said the project aims to supply industrial complexes in Aqaba city with local natural gas produced from Risha field, which is delivered by tankers.

Abu Al-Rub valued EMRC’s role in developing legislation that contributed to streamline procedures for licensing natural gas projects in the Kingdom.
