Culture: “Cairo is Islamic culture” reflects Egypt’s position

Minister of Culture Enas Abdel Dayem said choosing Egypt as the capital of Islamic culture for 2022 attests to Egypt’s outstanding cultural role in the world.

 

During a press conference held on Tuesday 7/12/2021 to announce details of choosing Cairo as next year’s culture capital for Islamic world countries, the minister said Cairo is a city of diversity and cultural richness reflecting many of the salient features of the human civilization in general and the Islamic civilization in particular, as it has always been a meeting-point of civilizations, old and modern, and a unique center of art, intellect and creativity.

 

Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Dr. Salim bin Mohammad al-Malik participated in the gathering that took place in the Cairo Opera House’s Small Hall, to elaborate on the details marking the start of the festivity.

 

The event’s numerous cultural activities are all dedicated to present a true image of the Islamic culture, advancing the values of co-existence and tolerance, besides promoting interaction among Islamic countries, the minister said.

 

She further lauded the ISESCO’s role in support of the celebration, noting that all included programs will kickstart in February. The agenda contains some 50 cultural events covering multilateral aspects featuring the Egyptian culture and tradition, she went on to say.

 

The capitals of Islamic culture purposes are to strengthen ties among peoples, initiate a creative dialogue among them, encourage the intellectual communication among the citizens of Islamic nations, capitalize on the rich Islamic heritage, promote tolerance and coexistence and offer a factual image of the ancient Islamic civilization.
