BEIRUT: In response to recent threats from Israel to bomb parts of the historic city of Tyre, Lebanon's Caretaker Culture Minister, Judge Mohammad Wissam Mortada, has taken decisive steps to seek international protection for the city's archaeological sites. The Media Office of Minister Mortada announced on Wednesday that the ministry has reached out to Lebanon's UNESCO ambassador, Mustafa Adib, urging immediate action to safeguard the UNESCO-listed sites in Tyre, which are recognized for their exceptional global cultural significance. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Minister Mortada highlighted the critical threat posed to Tyre's vibrant community, which is rich in cultural heritage and interfaith harmony. He underscored that the city's historical and cultural assets, along with its civilian population, have become targets of Israeli aggression. The minister called on international organizations, with a specific plea to UNESCO, to intervene and protect Lebanon's cultural heritage and its people from the ongoing threats.
