A religious service (doxology) took place on Sunday, April 2, in Athens Cathedral, to mark the anniversary of April 1,1955, when the uprising by Cypriots against British colonialism kicked off. The ceremony was attended by the Cypriot Deputy Minister of Culture, Michalis Hadjiyiannis, representatives of the Greek government and parliamentary parties, the Greek military leadership and citizens. The Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Fragogiannis addressed the ceremony on behalf of the Greek government, while the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Greece, Kyriakos Kenevezos delivered a speech.
