Amman: DroidCon Amman 2024 kicked off Friday with the participation of 1,000 Jordanian university students and Android application development experts from local, regional and international institutions and companies.

DroidCon Amman is where the industry’s leading Android experts converge to support the Android platform and create a strong network for developers and companies.

The openining ceremony was attended by representative of the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Director General of the Digital Skills Association Nabil Fayoumi, Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) Director General Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat, DroidCon CEO Greg Fawson, and Fahd Al-Dheeb, CEO of Omnis Media.

Fawson gave a briefing on the history and development of DroidCon since it was launched in 2009 to become one of the largest conferences on developing Android applications, as it incorporates a network of over 30,000 participants. The attendees were also briefed on DroidCon Academy services.

For his part, Fayoumi said the Ministr
y of Digital Economy and the Digital Skills Association looked forward to cooperating with DroidCon organizers and take all measures for its success stemming from its belief in the importance of such technical gatherings.

He said the conference provides vital and important opportunities for university students and communications and information technology workers to keep pace with latest technologies and innovations.

It also helps to exchange expertise and generate employment opportunities for young men and women in line with the objectives of the Ministry and the Association, he added.

The Ministry and the Association, he pointed out, seek to develop young people’s digital skills and provide them with practical expertise to benefit from latest technologies and develop innovative technical solutions to meet future labor market needs.

“This conference contributes to the growth and development of the Android community through providing a platform for cooperation, knowledge exchange and communication,” said
Arabiyat.

Since the start of the Android revolution, JTB took a decision to use technology and integrate it in marketing Jordan as a must-visit destination to increase the number of tourists, he added.

The first day of the gathering saw eight sessions and workshops held, in which industry experts highlighted key trends and innovations, challenges posed to developers and ideal settings to achieve maximum reuse.

The conference is organized by Omnis Media and its technical arm, Omnis Technologies, from January 18 to 20, in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the Digital Skills Association, and is sponsored by the JTB, Zain Company, ArabiaWeather and Media Observer.
