Acting President of the National Institute for Astronomical Research, Taha Rabah, said that the stations of the National Seismic Network recorded a strong earthquake today, Friday, according to ‘Russia Today.’

He explained that the earthquake was detected at 9:12 minutes and 47 seconds in the morning local time in Cairo, with a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale, 855 kilometers north of Marsa Matrouh, located in southern Greece.

Rabeh confirmed, in a statement issued by the institute on Friday, that the institute received information indicating that the earthquake was felt and that there were no losses of life or property.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale was recorded in southern Greece, with its epicenter at a depth of 17 kilometers and 122 kilometers southwest of the Greek city of Patra, which is inhabited by about 168 thousand people.

No information was received about injuries or damage resulting from the earthquake.
