The Arab Republic of Egypt has condemned racist remarks by ultranationalist Israeli Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich who called for the Palestinian town of Huwwara to be ‘wiped out’.

“These statements represent a dangerous and unacceptable incitement to violence, which contradicts all laws, customs and moral values, and lacks the responsibility that any official holding an official position should have,” the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement also affirmed Egypt’s position calling for the need “to stop provocative or inciting actions against the Palestinian people, and to put an end to unilateral measures, with the aim of achieving calm between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.”

Egypt also called preparing the environment for the resumption of the peace process on the basis of the principle of the two-state solution and the resolutions of international legitimacy.

“The only way to achieve a comprehensive and just peace in the region, and to establish an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the statement concluded.
