Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar on Sunday discussed in a meeting with Mureo Kasahara, a Japanese transplant surgeon and head of the liver transplantation department in the National Center for Child Health and Development (NCCHD), ways of boosting cooperation between Egypt and Japan in a number of surgical specialties.

The health minister lauded Egyptian-Japanese deeply-rooted relations, stressing the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in various health areas, said Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

The two sides probed how to exchange the medical expertise between the two countries in performing pediatric surgeries, as well as organ transplants, especially liver transplants, the spokesman added.

The pair mulled the possibility of dispatching and receiving medical teams between Egypt and Japan to share the know-how in conducting organ transplants, and pediatric surgeries, which in turn could help improve the quality of health services offered to citizens.
