Egypt, Qatar discuss cooperation in maritime transport

Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir held a meeting Wednesday with Qatari Ambassador to Egypt Salem Mubarak Al Shafi to discuss means of boosting cooperation in the field of maritime transport.

The two sides discussed the outcome of a visit paid by Qatar’s QTerminals officials to Egypt to get acquainted with investment opportunities available at the Sokhna port development project.

In a press release, Wazir voiced Egypt’s readiness to cooperate with Qatar in the field of maritime transport to transform Egypt into a hub for global trade and logistics.

He added that the Sokhna Port could stand as a distinct example of joint cooperation after the completion of its comprehensive development efforts to be equivalent to international ports.

For his part, the Qatari ambassador voiced his country’s keenness on developing seaports, such as the Hamad Port, in line with the latest international standards.

He praised ongoing development works at the Sokhna Port, stressing that Qatar has a strong desire to invest in the seaport.

At the end of the meeting, the ambassador extended an invitation from Qatari Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti to Waziri to visit Qatari seaports and discuss means of promoting cooperation between the two countries in this field.
