Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that Egypt would seek through its chairmanship of the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC COP 27), to build on the momentum built in the UN climate change conference (COP26) in Glasgow to strengthen international action on confronting this phenomenon at all levels.

Shoukry made the remarks during a video-conference meeting on Tuesday 8/2/2022 with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry to follow up preparations for the COP27 that will kick off in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh in November, as well as continuing coordination with the US on international efforts to combat climate change, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez.

The top Egyptian diplomat explained that Egypt would also strive to reach results that fulfil international ambition to confront climate change, with giving special importance to backing developing countries, especially the African ones.

The spokesman noted that the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in addressing climate change, where they asserted the need to convene the Egyptian-American working group in this regard as soon as possible.

Shoukry posted Kerry on the opportunities available to American companies in Egypt to invest in the fields of new and renewable energy and green economy.
