CAIRO: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said today that the Palestinian issue must be dealt with by reaching a comprehensive political framework and setting a clear-cut timeframe for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Shoukry made these remarks during a press conference with his French counterpart Stéphane Séjourné, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

The Egyptian minister stressed the importance of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and enabling aid delivery to the Palestinian people there.

He affirmed Egypt’s utter rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, which he warned could prompt a dangerous expansion of conflict in the Middle East.

For his part, the French Foreign Minister also stressed the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza, praising efforts made by Egypt to bring humanitarian, medical and food aid into the Strip.

He further expressed his country’s rejection of any forced displacement of the population of the Gaza Strip, which is facing a tragic sit
uation and a distinct lack of basic humanitarian needs.

The Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry expressed its “deep concern over the airstrikes that both Syria and Iraq have been subjected to,” regretting “the resulting deaths and injuries, and the violation of the security and sovereignty of the two countries.”

In a statement, the ministry reminded that its stance is moral when it comes to any attack on an Arab state. It has previously expressed a similar position when the sovereignty and security of Jordan were violated and when Americans were targeted on its territory.

The ministry called for restraint and urged the respect of the security, sovereignty, and safety of all countries. It emphasized Lebanon’s repeated warnings about the dangers of the war’s expansion and the escalation of conflicts.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry also stressed the necessity of implementing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza as a mandatory step to halt the escalation and to reach a political solution based on the establishment of the Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its c
apital, by relevant United Nations resolutions.
