Egypt’s unique tourist destinations and competitive pricing have recently been highlighted by various international newspapers and websites, according to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiques on Sunday 16/4/2023.

Under the title “Sharm-ing deals: The best Egypt summer holiday deals,” the British newspaper The Sun said that Egypt is a distinctive tourist destination to spend summer vacation in, as it is home to a number of the ancient wonders of the world.

The Sun mentioned the country’s many archaeological sites, such as the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the temples of Luxor and Karnak, as well as its many activities, such as horseback and camel riding, hot air ballooning and safari trips.

Visiting markets, as well as enjoying the many stunning beaches for relaxation and water sports, are also activities that The Sun highlighted. Egypt is well known for its many distinguished hotels and tourist resorts like those located in cities on the Red Sea coast like Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada.

Diving into the beauty of Ancient Egypt

The American website Urban Matter described travelling to Egypt as a trip of a lifetime in an article titled “Discover the Wonders of Ancient Egypt: A Journey to the Great Pyramids of Giza.”

The website emphasised the overall wonderful atmosphere of Egypt, the country’s rich history and culture, as well as the many experiences that can be enjoyed during a visit to Cairo’s markets and ancient temples.

For archaeology and history lovers, the American website Nation World News highlighted the significance of the Valley of the Kings as one of the most important archaeological tombs that reflects Egypt’s rich history.

The report pointed out that this ancient burial site, located on the west bank of the Nile in Luxor, is a unique and stunning place that has attracted tourists for centuries.

The website encouraged tourists to visit the tomb of King Tutankhamun, the Valley of the Queens, the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Temple of Ramses III and the Colossi of Memnon.

As for beach and leisure tourism, the American website Business Wire referred to Egypt as “A Beach Paradise All Year Round,” touting its warm sun and clear waters.

The website also invited tourists to visit cities such as Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Sharm El-Sheikh and Luxor.

A sector on the rise

Egypt – which relies on the tourism sector as a key source for hard currency – has recently eased tourist visa requirements from China, Iran, India, Turkey, Morocco, Algeria and Israel as part of efforts to boost tourism in the country.

The country’s tourism sector was hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the number of visitors dropping from 13.1 million in 2019 to 3.7 million in 2020.

However, the tourism sector began to recover in the last two years – with the number of tourists climbing up to eight million in 2021 and, again, to 11.7 million in 2022.

The government has said it expects 15 million tourists to visit Egypt in 2023 and plans are in the work to expand hotel capacity to receive 25–30 million by 2028.
