DUBAI: The Eleventh International Conference on Joint Surgery in the Middle East (ICJR) concluded today in Dubai.Held for the first time in the Middle East, the three-day medical event gathered 1,000 surgeons and doctors from different continents to discuss the latest shoulder prosthetic joints, traditional and surgical knee treatments, correction of knee replacement, traditional and surgical hip treatment, correction of hip replacement, ligament or tendon injuries, muscle injuries, meniscus injuries, anterior cruciate ligament correction, correction of the failure of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and minimally invasive orthopedic surgeries.

Dr. Sameeh Tarabichi, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon and Supreme President of the Conference, stated that the United Arab Emirates is a pioneer in adopting modern technologies such as robotics, navigation systems, and artificial intelligence, thanks to the foresight of its wise leadership and its capabilities, which in turn, have enabled doctors to select and
manufacture the appropriate sizes for each patient individually.

He said the global event brought together prominent speakers, orthopaedic surgeons, trainers, nurses, and medical students from different countries. They engaged in panel discussions, research papers, and reports dealing with modern surgical techniques and developments related to shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, and sports surgeries, in addition to providing interactive sessions with experts and specialists.

He pointed out the conference focussed on technological developments and introduced modern techniques in the field of joint surgery, such as joint design, the use of a three-dimensional printer, and innovation in robotic surgeries. Difficult cases were discussed, in addition to seminars and workshops to train doctors on the best ways to replace joints. Discussions also dealt with the latest global developments in sports medicine, ankle and joint reimplantation according to the specifications required for each region.

On the other hand, Dr. Jab
er Al-Khubaili, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon and Vice President of the Conference, said that this year’s conference is considered one of the most successful conferences, where the latest research and papers were discussed, such as the use of artificial intelligence and virtual reality technologies, which will enable doctors and surgeons to make the best use when performing difficult and complex surgeries accurately and efficiently, which reduces the rate of human error and raises the level of expected results.

The conference featured 69 regional and international lecturers from 14 participating countries who gave 120 lectures during 21 scientific sessions, 35 scientific research, and five practical workshops, including two on human corpses brought specifically for this purpose from the United States of America.

This year’s conference presented a video surgical presentation by experts who provided advice related to orthopaedic surgery. The goal is to change the status quo of orthopaedic education and devise
new ways to acquire knowledge that contribute to improving patient health outcomes.
