Environment Min.: Promoting cooperation with UN to support national climate dialogue

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad underlined the importance of promoting cooperation with the United Nations to support the national climate dialogue which is the first national initiative for raising awareness about climate change in various Egyptian governorates.

During a video conference meeting of the strategic framework partnership with the UNDPF on Wednesday, she reviewed Egypt’s vision for hosting the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27).

She said efforts are underway to finalize the rule book for meeting the Paris agreement goals, adding that Egypt will build on the success of the COP26.

Egypt as the chair of COP27 works on several initiatives in the fields of agriculture, water, energy, financing, waste and sustainable cities and transports, she said.

She added that Egypt is looking forward to cooperating with United Nations agencies in such initiatives through laying down their framework and goals to be announced during COP27.

Participants in the meeting hailed the stories of success and best practices for accelerating the shift from planning to implementation.

They also lauded the idea of holding a comprehensive national dialogue on climate change.

They said they are looking forward to working with Egypt – as the chair of COP27 – to support several initiatives as well as the climate action agenda.
