The Council of the European Union Thursday adopted an assistance measure worth one billion euro (USD 1.1 billion) for immediate artillery ammunition delivery for the Ukrainian armed forces.

This measure will allow the EU to reimburse member states for ammunition to Ukraine from existing stocks, it said in a press release.

The measure adopted today brings the total EU contribution for Ukraine under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to 4.6 billion euro (USD 5.08 billion).

The EU created the EPF in 2021 to support partners around the world in the areas of military and defence.

“With today?’s decision, we operationalise the first part of the historic agreement reached by EU leaders to support the immediate delivery of one billion euro worth of artillery ammunition for the Ukrainian armed forces,” stated Josep Borrell, EU High Representative.
