Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor Urges UN to Declare Northern Gaza a “Disaster Zone”

GAZA CITY: The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has appealed to the United Nations to designate the Northern Gaza Strip as a disaster-stricken area, urging immediate intervention to halt what it describes as ongoing genocide by Israeli forces. According to Jordan News Agency, the organization accused the Israeli army of conducting systematic and widespread killings, deliberate starvation, and forced mass displacement in the region. The group reported the complete destruction of essential life necessities, compounding the crisis for civilians trapped in the area. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor emphasized that its field team has been documenting severe human rights violations in Jabalya camp and the broader northern Gaza Strip amid an escalating Israeli offensive. The organization highlighted that over 400,000 Palestinians are at risk of death from bombing or starvation, as Israeli forces have blocked humanitarian aid access since the beginning of the month while continuing their military operations in the area. The human rights group detailed hundreds of documented Israeli attacks and bombings over a 15-day period that have decimated homes, shelters, and infrastructure in northern Gaza. The organization noted that many victims and injured individuals remain trapped without access to medical assistance, as Israeli forces have enforced restrictions on the movement of ambulances and civil defense crews in Jabalya and surrounding areas. The Observatory urged the United Nations and the international community to take immediate action to protect the lives of hundreds of thousands of northern Gaza residents, calling for an end to what they term as a second consecutive year of genocide by Israel.
