BRUSSELS, EU High Representative Josep Borrell will start a two-day visit to Algeria tomorrow, Sunday, aiming to strengthen cooperation with the North African country.

“This visit will be an opportunity for in-depth discussions to consolidate and expand the partnership between the European Union and Algeria,” said a statement released by his office.

Borrell will explore areas of mutual interest covered by the EU-Algeria Association Agreement, with the aim of re-launching or further strengthening dialogue and cooperation, it said.

During his visit, the EU foreign policy chief will meet Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Prime Minister Aamene Benabderrahmane and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramtane Lamamra.

The discussions will include regional and international issues, including in particular the situation in the Sahel and the common challenges in the current global context following the Russian war against Ukraine, added the statement.
