The families of the two young Cypriots, 24 year old Anastasia Adamidou and 23 year old Kyprianos Papaioannou, who are still missing after the train crash in Tempi, Greece, are waiting for the result of the DNA tests. Cyprus’ Foreign Ministry Permanent Secretary, Kornelios Korneliou has told CNA that the two families have not received any official information so far.
Responding to questions, Korneliou said that based on his information, provided on Thursday afternoon by the Embassy of Cyprus to Greece, the two families have not so far received any official information. He added that “we are in contact with the head of the team that has taken the DNA samples and the results are not ready yet.”
Moreover, Korneliou said that according to the information he has received, Adamidou’s parents, who after the tragic accident traveled to Larissa and gave a DNA sample were expected to leave Greece on Thursday evening, while Papaioannou’s parents were still there.
Korneliou noted that the “Embassy of Cyprus and the Consulate General of Cyprus in Thessaloniki are in constant contact with the families of the two young people waiting for the results of the DNA tests.”
He added that the Crisis Management Centre of the Foreign Ministry, in coordination with Foreign Minister, Constantinos Kombos and himself, is in contact with the Embassy of Cyprus in Athens.
The Foreign Ministry’s Permanent Secretary also said, responding to a question, that Greek authorities have undertaken the task to offer psychological support to the members of the families who are there.
