FAO supports agriculture in Egypt with 20% of land

The Regional Director of the World Food Program (FAO) for the Middle East and North Africa Corinne Fleischer said that FAO supported agriculture in Egypt with 20 percent of the land, which has contributed to increasing production by 35 percent, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

Fleischer said during her speech at the Regional Conference for the Near East, she said that the organization’s contributions in Iraq, while noting that it is working with the government to help alleviate poverty levels.

She added “the organization has established 550 km of irrigation canals in Iraq, and the course of rivers has been cleaned for a distance of 750 km, and we have also established one thousand camps for heating.”

She stressed “the Food and Agriculture Program provides reasons to increase farmers’ production and provide food, and we plan for the future, and we must advance our work with governments, including Iraq, to help get out of poverty.”

And she continued, “our experience in Iraq is successful in support of the government’s efforts to provide food to all residents, and we support helping rural areas.”
