Senate President, Faisal Fayez, on Wednesday held official talks with Egyptian Parliament Speaker, Hanafi Jabali, who is currently visiting the Kingdom, heading a parliamentary delegation. During the meeting, Fayez affirmed pride in the “deep-rooted, brotherly” bilateral relations and their “high” level in various fields, pointing to keenness of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, to develop ties to serve common interests and the Arab nation’s issues. Fayez also stressed importance of activating inter-parliamentary cooperation and orchestrating positions of the two countries’ lawmakers on various issues of common concern discussed at Arab and international parliamentary forums. Affirming Egypt’s water security is an integral part of the Arab national security, he stressed necessity of reaching an Arab position that supports a “fair and binding” international agreement based on international law that preserves Egypt’s water rights. Fayez renewed the call for holding an Arab economic summit to realize a project for an Arab economic union. This future union, he noted, would enable the Arab nation to face challenges related to sustainable and comprehensive development. On a related context, Fayez called on legislative bodies in Jordan, Egypt and Iraq to push these countries’ executive authorities to work on speedy implementation related to the tripartite cooperation and partnership project called: “The New Levant”. This project, he noted, is related to multiple economic and political understandings and aims at building investment partnerships to serve common interests, which is a starting point to reach the desired Arab economic integration.
