ABU DHABI: The FIBA 3x3 World Tour has returned to Abu Dhabi, marking a significant milestone in the city's journey as a key player in the global basketball arena. Organized in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), the tournament is set to feature 14 teams competing on the Corniche, an iconic location in the capital. According to Emirates News Agency, Talal Al Hashimi, Executive Director of Events at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasized the importance of hosting this event following a notable summer of sports at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Al Hashimi expressed pride in the nine-year partnership with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), highlighting Abu Dhabi's role as a leader in the 3x3 basketball world since it hosted the first FIBA 3x3 World Tour in 2015. The tournament is expected to contribute to the growth and development of 3x3 basketball in the UAE. Al Hashimi also underscored the significance of the QUEST community basketball championship, an event that offers local te ams the chance to compete against international talent. He expressed gratitude for the support that allows Abu Dhabi to continue hosting world-class sporting action. Ignacio Soriano, Head of Events and Partnerships at FIBA, expressed appreciation for the collaboration with ADSC. Soriano noted the importance of providing opportunities for amateurs to play alongside Olympic champions, thereby inspiring local youth. He emphasized FIBA's goal to expand the sport by engaging with local schools and communities. Worthy De Jong, a Paris 2024 Olympic Champion from Team Amsterdam, shared his positive experiences in Abu Dhabi and his hope to inspire others through the sport. De Jong highlighted the importance of events like this in fostering the growth and love for basketball in the UAE.
