RAMALLAH, Monday, May 08, 2023 (WAFA) – FIFA President Gianni Infantino is set to arrive on historic visit to Palestine on Sunday, according to President of the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) Jibril Rajoub. Speaking during a press conference in the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem, Rajoub announced that Infantino will be accompanied in his historic visit by three FIFA Executive Committee members, namely Hani Abu Rida, Yasser Almisehal, who serves as President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, and Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, who serves as President of Qatar Football Association. FIFA President Infantino, Rajoud added, would be officially received by Premier Mohammad Shtayyeh at the presidential headquarter in Bethlehem before attending the friendly match between Palestine and Jordan teams. The match would be held at Al-Khader Stadium, which would be renamed late Brazilian soccer star Pelé, which would coincide with the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Nakba. Rajoub expressed his hope that the international visitors would leave fully aware of the challenges that the Palestinian people face under the yoke of Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism and convinced that Palestinians are capable and ready to build an independent state with sports as one of its main components.
