Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said Wednesday Egypt is moving forward towards realizing the long-awaited dream of Egyptians in Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS) for all family members, benefiting from the Japanese experiment in this regard.
In a statement on Wednesday, the minister said an agreement was signed with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to benefit from its hands-on experiences in developing human capabilities as the main element for the success of any new system.
The minister further noted that the Economic Justice Unit at the Finance Ministry hosted the first meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee for the Technical Support Project “Capacity Development for the Implementation of the Comprehensive Health Coverage Policy.”
The project is implemented by the Finance Ministry and the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, in cooperation with JICA, with the aim of boosting the operational capabilities of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, the minister added.
Hossam Sadiq, the Executive Director of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, said Egypt is proceeding with steady steps towards implementing the digital transformation project for comprehensive health insurance, benefiting from the experiences of international development partners in the medical sector.
