FMs of Cyprus-Israel-Greece stress the importance of energy cooperation (1)

Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Greece and Israel stressed the importance of tripartite cooperation in energy matters, in statements after their meeting, on Friday, in Nicosia.

In his statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Constantinos Kombos, referred to the energy cooperation of the three countries and its importance for stability in the region, especially after the war in Ukraine. He reaffirmed the close relations with the other two countries and said that he briefed his counterparts on the Cyprus issue and the recent initiative of President Christodoulides for a more active engagement of the EU.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Nikos Dendias, referred to the cooperation and the long-standing, unbreakable relations of the three countries. He said he informed his counterparts about the improved climate in relations with Turkey after the earthquakes, but said they did not expect everything to change overnight.

Foreign Affairs Minister of Israel Eli Cohen referred also to the close relations of the three countries and thanked Greece for its assistance in foiling a terrorist attack against Jewish targets in Greece. In relation to energy, he said that the three countries could play an important role in the region. He added that his country supports the 3+1 mechanism with US participation and said that he spoke with his US counterpart yesterday evening to set up a meeting within the framework of the mechanism.

In their meeting, the Foreign Ministers also prepared the trilateral meeting between the leaders of the three countries, to take place in Nicosia at the end of the year.
