Amman – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, participated in the 19th edition of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Manama Dialogue 2023 in Bahrain. During the dialogue, Safadi delivered a keynote speech addressing the ongoing Israeli attack on Gaza.

According to Jordan News Agency, Safadi, in his speech, condemned the Israeli actions in Gaza as brutal aggression and not self-defense. He argued that if any other country had conducted similar actions, global sanctions would have been imposed. Safadi stressed that no justification exists for such brutality and that the current conflict in Gaza is a direct result of the occupation. He emphasized that unless the root cause of the conflict is addressed, it will continue to destabilize the region.

In his address, Safadi pointed out the disproportionate impact of the conflict on Palestinians, comparing it to a hypothetical displacement of a significant portion of the American population. He accused Israel of holding 2.3 million Palestinians hostage and of selectively targeting different areas in Gaza.

Safadi dismissed the idea of sending Arab forces to Gaza, a topic he had discussed with his Arab counterparts. He accused Israel of placing itself above the law and committing war crimes by preventing the entry of essential supplies into Gaza.

The Jordanian Foreign Minister called for an immediate halt to the war and aggression and for a permanent resolution of the conflict through a two-state solution. He warned of the conflict’s potential escalation and reiterated Jordan’s commitment to preventing Palestinian displacement and working towards peace for all.
