The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates today welcomed the political and diplomatic efforts exerted by Saudi Arabia in cooperation with Jordan, Egypt, and the League of Arab States, in partnership with the European Union, to reinvigorate the peace process in the Middle East and to emphasize the importance of commitment to the two-state solution and the embodiment of the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders. The Ministry confirmed in a statement that these efforts, which contributed to the launch of Working Groups in the presence of 60 countries that met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings, revived interest in the two-state solution, the embodiment of the Palestinian state, the necessity of ending the Israeli occupation and ending the suffering of the Palestinian people as a prelude toward that step. It said that ‘in light of the absence of a political horizon, the official Israeli rejection of the two-state solution and negotiations to reach a Palestinian-Israeli peace
agreement, and in light of the occupying state continuing to commit more crimes against the defenseless Palestinian people, violation of international law through its unilateral measures of land confiscation, settlement construction, house demolition and killing of people and their displacement, and other measures that have recently escalated in an unprecedented manner, this initiative by our brothers and friends confirms the importance of the Palestinian issue and its centrality to any regional or bilateral solution in our region.’ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also applauded the statement issued by the countries contributing to this initiative, as well as the statements issued by the Saudi, Jordanian, and Egyptian foreign ministries, and the European Union in this regard. It also affirmed its readiness to cooperate with the brothers and friends in order to make this effort a success to end the occupation, put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people, and reach a comprehensive peace agreement that
will lead to the establishment of the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
