NOUAKCHOTT: The 4th African Forum for Promoting of Peace, which opened on 10 January in Nouakchott, under the patronage of President of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, is marked by numerous presentations and discussion sessions on the theme of original education in Africa.

Participating in the opening session were President of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani; Adama Barrow, the President of the Republic of Gambia, who was the guest of honour of this session; the President of the African Conference for the Promotion of Peace (ACPP) Shaikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah; Dr. Mohamed Al-Mukhtar Gomaa, Egyptian Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs; and Mali’s Minister of Religious Affairs and Worship Dr. Muhammad Kony.

Addressing the conference, the Mauritanian President stressed that the cycles of violence, terrorism, and destructive wars that are sweeping across the African continent and the world in general, confirm the urgent need to eliminate violence, terrorism, and destructive ethnic t
endencies once and for all. ‘This requires the promotion of values of tolerance, peace, and moderation, which is also the goal of traditional education.’

For his part, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah said that this year’s conference is a step forward on the paths of peace, which the African Conference has followed in its ongoing quest for the causes of harmony, security, well-being, and tranquility.

The 3-day conference discusses the cognitive roots and communication bridges of original education in Africa, its messages and methods in promoting peace and countering extremism, as well as the challenges and opportunities of traditional education in the contemporary context, exploring the prospects for cooperation and integration with modern education.
