FUJAIRAH: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fujairah Environment Authority, the Authority has launched a book series on the natural history of Fujairah.

The series will include seven editions, with the first book titled “The Natural History of Fujairah”. The announcement was made at a press conference held today at the Al Bahar Hotel Resort in Fujairah.

Aseela Moalla, Director of Fujairah Environment Authority, said that the series commences with the publication of the “The Natural History of Fujairah,’ which is a comprehensive guide to all aspects of the environment in the emirate. The release date for the remaining books in the series will be announced soon. The upcoming titles include: Archeology of Fujairah, Whales and Dolphins in Fujairah, Plants in Fujairah, Birds in Fujairah, Reptiles in Fujairah, and Geology of Fujairah.

Moalla said the series is a valuable resource containing written
and video information that will be of interest to researchers, specialists, students, and anyone curious about the natural history of Fujairah. The series covers the transformations Fujairah has undergone over the ages. It also aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving nature, the environment, and its resilience to potential threats and changes. The series encourages individuals to strive for preserving the balance among all living creatures on Earth.

Archaeologist and co-author of the book Dr. Michele C. Ziolkowski said that “The Natural History of Fujairah” covers both the marine and wildlife of Fujairah, as well as the environment, and the impact of humans on the natural world in the past and present. The book also showcases emirate’s vibrant landscape and diverse natural sites. Ziolkowski added that the book is the result of contributions from 16 experts in various fields, making it an important source for experts, scholars and community in general.

The late historian and researcher Pet
er Hellyer, editor Balazs Buzas, Dr. Michele C. Ziolkowski, and several experts, researchers, and photographers from individuals and government institutions in Fujairah have participated in preparing and editing of “The Natural History of Fujairah”.

This series is considered the first environmental and archaeological database for the Emirate of Fujairah, as it was prepared according to specialised studies and research, some of which are published for the first time. The series come as a valuable addition to the emirate’s efforts in preserving the environment and its keenness to enhance community awareness regarding environmental conservation and the sustainability of its resources.
