The will to further deepen and expand cooperation in a wide range of fields was discussed, among other things, on Tuesday afternoon in an online meeting attended by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs and the Chairman of the Cyprus-Israel Friendship Group in the Cyprus Parliament, Haris Georgiades with the President of the respective Friendship Group with Cyprus in the Knesset, Etty Hava Atia and the member Moshe Tur-Paz, in the presence of the Ambassador of Israel to Cyprus, Oren Anolik. According to a press release by the Cyprus Parliament during the meeting, the excellent level of relations between Cyprus and Israel was underlined on both sides, based on common principles and similar characteristics that connect the two countries and their peoples. ?he common will to further deepen and expand cooperation was emphasized in a wide range of sectors, at the bilateral and trilateral level and within the framework of the expanded ‘3+1’ cooperation mechanism, with the participation of the US, the announcement says. It is added that Georgiades noted the significant upgrading of bilateral relations between Cyprus and Israel, both in terms of their economic and political dimensions, in key areas of mutual interest, especially security and defense and energy. Furthermore, Georgiades stated that for Cyprus, Israel is a strategic partner and that, on this basis, joint initiatives and actions will be undertaken to further strengthen the parliamentary dimension of relations between the two countries, through regular contacts and exchanges at various levels. On her part Hava Atia underlined that Israel attaches great importance to its relations with Cyprus, as a neighboring friendly country and as a member state of the European Union, and to cooperation between the two countries in areas such as energy, tourism and culture. Furthermore, it is noted that from the Israeli side, the readiness to continue and further strengthen relations between the two Parliaments, especially at the level of the respective Friendship Groups, was emphasized.
