German police end hostage situation in Karlsruhe

Hostages have been freed unharmed at a pharmacy in Karlsruhe, Germany following a police operation, authorities said Friday.

‘At 9:10 p.m. the pharmacy was entered by a special police unit. A male suspect was arrested,’ police wrote on Twitter. ‘The building is currently being searched. According to preliminary information, there are no injured persons.’

Media reports earlier said the suspect demanded a ransom of more than pound 1 million ($1 million).

Police did not comment on reports of a ransom demand.
