ABU DHABI: Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to the UAE President and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), has emphasised that the historic ‘UAE Consensus” came as a culmination of directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in bringing together global efforts to preserve the environment and combating climate change factors to ensure a bright future for humanity in the long term.

Nusseibeh said, ‘In hosting COP28, the UAE’s wise leadership followed in the footsteps of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who succeeded in transforming the desert into a green paradise. The UAE succeeded in unifying the opinions of the leaders of 198 countries by addressing their minds and consciences, despite the diversity of their cultural, religious, or ideological backgrounds.’

He added, ‘The UAE’s Arab, regional, and global pioneer stature, is the fruit of efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed. The environment occupied a large part of his thought, bas
ed on his belief in the necessity of going parallel between development, construction, and environmental preservation. In this regard, his directives have become a legacy in the UAE in bringing together global efforts to reduce the dangers facing countries due to the climate change repercussions and playing a prominent role in environmental protection areas at the global level.’

Following in the footsteps of the late Sheikh Zayed and his rooted legacy, the UAE sought and made tremendous efforts to ensure the future of this planet for current and future generations. “Together, we look forward to that ‘UAE Consensus’ would result in a ‘community culture’ in which all efforts are combined to provide future generations with a sustainable environment,” he said in conclusion.
