HM King receives UNGA Presidents

Manama, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received at Safriya Palace today former Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on the occasion of their visit to the kingdom at a royal invitation to participate in the meeting of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (CPUNGA), hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The delegation of the UNGA former Presidents comprised CPUNGA Chairman, President of the 56th session Dr. Han Seung-soo, Deputy Chairman and President of the 57th session Jan Kavan, President of the 61st session Shaikha Haya bint Rashid Al Khalifa, President of the 62nd session Srgjan Kerim, President of the 65th session Joseph Deiss, President of the 67th session Vuk Jeremic, President of the 70th session Mogens Lykketoft, President of the 72nd session Miroslav Lajcák, and Director of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism Dr. Jehangir Khan.

HM the King welcomed the delegation, thanking them for accepting the invitation to visit Bahrain. He praised the important meeting hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain with the participation of an elite of prominent international personalities. He commended their tireless efforts to promote the UN role on the international scene, lauding strong relations of friendship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and their countries. He wished CPUNGA every success in serving the goals of the international organisation to foster global peace and security and achieve growth and prosperity for all humankind.

HM the King commended strong cooperation and partnership between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UN, stressing the key role played by the international organisation in boosting regional and international security and peace, solving global issues, handling environmental and natural disasters, fighting climate change and poverty and serving humanity. He also discussed with the former UNGA Presidents regional and international issues.

The delegation expressed thanks and appreciation to HM the King for the gracious welcome and hospitality and for Bahrain’s hosting of CPUNGA. They hailed the vital role of the kingdom in backing the UN efforts and briefed HM the King on the main issues on the meeting’s agenda. They also commended development in the Kingdom of Bahrain under the leadership of HM the King.
