HONG KONG: Dr. Patrick Lau, Deputy Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), said that Hong Kong is committed to strengthening its position as a global business hub.

In a media briefing today ahead of the opening of the Asian Financial Forum (AFF) in Hong Kong tomorrow, Lau said that the HKTDC, as the agency responsible for supporting and promoting business in Hong Kong, is seeking to achieve three key objectives through its 50 overseas offices during the period 2023-2024.

Lau said that the first objective is to enhance the role that Hong Kong plays as a resilient business hub and contributor to global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The second objective is to enhance the competitiveness of the island through innovation and sustainable development.

The third and final objective is to build a new generation of connected and future-ready small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups, he further explained.

Lau noted that the HKTDC’s major trade conferences and exhi
bitions highlight the emerging opportunities from the Greater Bay Area of China, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) countries, and emerging markets such as the Middle East and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Lau said that the forum is an opportunity for close communication and cooperation to build a sustainable and inclusive development model. This is particularly important in the face of global uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and other challenges, which can help to generate new market opportunities and new partners.
