AMMAN – During a recent meeting with Brazilian Ambassador to Jordan, Marcio Fagundes, the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by Khaldoun Haina, focused on the urgent need to halt Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, address the humanitarian crisis, and work towards a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
According to Jordan News Agency, the committee’s primary concern is to stop the violence affecting civilians, particularly women and children, in Gaza, and to ensure the prompt delivery of humanitarian aid to the area. Haina highlighted the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza and its potential repercussions for the broader region, citing the absence of a political resolution for the Palestinian cause as a critical issue. He called on the Israeli occupation forces to respect international resolutions and respond to global calls to cease the aggression against the Gaza Strip. The committee also discussed the escalating tension in the West Bank, exacerbated by settlers’ attacks on Palestinians with the support of Israeli forces. The members of the committee expressed appreciation for Brazil’s stance on the situation in Gaza and noted the shared perspectives on key issues, especially the Palestinian cause. They emphasized Brazil’s significant role in the United Nations General Assembly and its contribution to regional security and stability. The MPs also called for an increase in trade exchange between Jordan and Brazil and a mutual exchange of expertise across various fields to serve shared interests. Ambassador Fagundes acknowledged the alignment of Brazil’s political vision with Jordan’s, particularly in pursuing peace, stability, and security in the region. He commended Jordan’s role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, particularly regarding the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Al-Quds Al-Sharif. Fagundes reiterated Brazil’s support for implementing United Nations resolutions that protect the rights of states to security and stability and firmly rejected all forms of violence. He affirmed Brazil’s opposition to the Israeli aggression in Gaza and its support for Jordan’s efforts to resolve the Middle East conflict.
