‘I only talk about peace’: Malala’s classy response to Oscars host gag about ‘spitgate’

Pakistani Nobel laureate Malala Yousufzai had the perfect response when Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel asked her a question about Harry Styles and Chris Pine’s “spit-gate” drama.

Dressed in a glittering floor-length gown, the education activist was at the 2023 Academy Awards ceremony Sunday night as an executive producer for Stranger at the Gate, which was nominated in the Best Documentary Short Film category.

Approaching Malala, Kimmel asked her: “I was wondering, do you think Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine?”

The two actors were rumored to have had a fight at the Don’t Worry Darling movie set last year.

Looking a bit unsure, Malala responded by saying: “I only talk about peace.”

“That’s why you’re Malala and nobody else is, ” Kimmel then said to her.

Users on social media praised Malala for her classy response, while Kimmel was slammed for asking the awkward question.

Quoting the video of the moment on Twitter, Malala wrote: “Treat people with kindness.”

Malala, 25, who now lives in the UK, was attacked by militants for advocating for girls’ education in Pakistan’s Swat in 2012.

In December 2014, she shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Indian child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi, making her the youngest-ever laureate.
