Telecommunications Minister Amr Talaat said the growth rate of the ICT sector in the fiscal year of 2021/2022 had reached 16.7%.

Delivering a speech before the Senate on Sunday, Talaat noted that Egypt pays great attention to digital transformation projects to offer digital government services for citizens, pointing to the launch of more than 165 government services on the Egypt Digital platform with total investments of EGP 50 billion.

Talaat reviewed the ICT Ministry’s strategy, which is based on achieving digital transformation, providing highly efficient communication services to citizens, and encouraging entrepreneurship.

The minister also pointed out that Egypt was ranked among the leading countries in digital government with classification (A), the highest category in the index, according to the GovTech Maturity Index of the World Bank.

The minister also talked about the ministry’s efforts to develop the digital infrastructure and improve communication services through the implementation of many projects, including a project aimed at connecting 33,000 government buildings to the optical fiber network, at a cost of EGP 7 billion in addition to projects related to the Decent Life initiative.

According to him, the ministry inked agreements with 29 global companies within its plans to gain $1 billion annually as export revenue by 2025.
