The implementation of the goals and objectives for a quality education constitutes an obligation and duty for us all, new Minister of Education, Sport and Youth Athina Michaelidou said Wednesday.
Speaking at the handover-takeover ceremony of the portfolio of the Ministry of Education, the new Minister said that children and their education will be at the center of her efforts.
“I firmly believe that the education of a country is interrelated with the quality and future of its society, which is why children and their interests will be at the center of our efforts,” she stressed.
She pledged to work hard to address the ‘serious challenges’ that are ahead and upgrade and modernize the education system.
Her ultimate goal, she noted, is to make sure that every child succeeds in cultivating knowledge, skills and abilities to the maximum extent possible, in the context of an inclusive, democratic education, based on decision-making and research data.
Finally, she thanked outgoing Minister Prodromos Prodromou for the work he has achieved in the Ministry.
The outgoing Minister of Education wished her every success in her new duties and referred to the work carried out in the Ministry during his term in office as well as to the challenges ahead, pending issues, priorities, and the implementation of Ministerial decisions, which the new Minister of Education will have before her.
Before the ceremony, they all observed a one-minute silence in memory of former Minister of Education Chrysostomos Sofianos, who passed away on February 27, but also for the victims of the fatal train accident in Greece.
