Amman: Indian Ambassador to Amman, Anwar Haleem, said India and Jordan have forged “a dynamic and flourishing” partnership, reaching newer heights every year.

In an interview with “Petra’ on the occasion of India’s 75th Republic Day, Haleem noted India considers Jordan an “important” partner in the region as the two countries strive for global peace and stability, and are dedicated to promoting multilateralism and addressing common concerns.

Haleen noted:” Our collaborative efforts have spanned a diverse range of fields in recent years, and this “remarkable” bond is the result of exceptional leadership and a shared vision between Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Hussein.”

In 2018, he said Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Jordan and King Abdullah II’s return visit to India, just 20 days apart, reflects the strength and significance of this partnership.

Haleem added that PM Modi and His Majesty have been in regular touch to take stock of our growing ties. Most recently
, the duo spoke on phone on 23 October 2023 and later interacted on the sidelines of COP28 in Dubai on 01 December 2023 holding enriching discussions on our deep rooted friendship.

Additionally, the envoy said trade and economic ties between India and Jordan are “flourishing,” as they capitalize on each others strengths in a mutually “beneficial” partnership.

In the financial year April 2022- March 2023, Haleem announced bilateral trade between India and Jordan reached an all-time high of US$ 4.425 billion, compared to the figures of US$ 1.695 billion in 2018-19, making it one of the “highest” growth of bilateral trade in the region, adding that India has also emerged as the 4th largest trading partner for Jordan in 2023.

India, he noted, has made “significant” investments in Jordan, particularly in the fields of phosphates and textiles, surpassing a total of US$ 1.5 billion.

In this regard, he said partnership between Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and Indian Farmers Fertilisers Cooperative (IFFCO
), has resulted in the establishment of a joint venture project valued at USD 860 million for the production of Phosphoric Acid.

This venture was jointly inaugurated in 2015 by King Abdullah II and former Indian President, Pranab Mukherjee, during the latter’s visit to Jordan, he pointed out.

Additionally, during Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Dr. Mansukh Mandviya’s visit to Jordan in May 2022, Haleem said JPMC and Arab Potash Company signed memoranda of understanding and agreements with several Indian fertilizer companies worth US $2.5 billion.

Furthermore, he affirmed Jordan has welcomed the investment of over 15 garment companies owned by Indians with cumulative investment of around US $500 million are located in the Qualified Industrial Zones.
