Baghdad The Federal Integrity Commission confirmed the issuance of a sentence of severe imprisonment in absentia against the former Minister of Transport for deliberately committing a violation of his job duties.

The Commission’s Investigation Department stated, “The Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued a sentence in absentia ruling a two-year term of severe imprisonment against the former Minister of Transport, indicating that the convict committed intentionally violating his job duties, following the conclusion of a contract between the General Company for Iraqi Ports and a company to rent a plot of land, with an area of (67,000) square meters in the port of Al-Maqal, for the purpose of establishing a scientific complex, in violation of the law.

The c Department continued, “The court found the evidence available in this case sufficient and convincing for conviction, so it issued its ruling against the convict in accordance with the provisions of Article (331) of P.C., and issued an arrest warrant against him and his uncle, in addition to giving the right to the injured party to claim compensation, after obtaining the decision to the definitive degree.”
