Iran reiterates its respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, reiterated his country’s stance that calls for respecting Syria’s sovereignty and rejecting the presence of occupying forces on its lands.

Abdollahian, at a press conference on Wednesday in Tehran with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, said “Iran rejects the occupation of parts of the Syrian lands and the presence of military bases there without the approval of the Syrian State.”

He added that the Syrian people are the only ones who have the right to decide their future in light of Syria’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity”

On his country’s relations with Iraq, Abdollahian stressed that they are “rooted and strategic”, calling for strengthening them.

The Iranian minister indicated that there is an ” initial agreement to release Iran’s assets set in one of the foreign banks”, referring that his country is conducting discussions on the time and the way to release them.

For his part, the Iraqi Foreign Minister stressed that the stability of Syria is important to Iraq, noting that “the security of Iran and Iraq is linked to the security of the whole region.”
